11.2.2009 is end day of iCable Broadband Network

Hong Kong Broadband Network(HKBN) will announce new boardband plan as $99 for 100Mb on 2Nov. Today during I was window shopping in Shum Shui Po. Two carriers, Hutchison Gobal Network(HGC) and PCCW had renewed their offer as $99 too. I haven't seen which transmission speed is PCCW promoted, either 18Mbps or 30Mbps with free wireless services. HGC is confirmed the offer is 100Mbps VDSL2 network.

Actually HKBN discounts to $1 per Mbps that is making NOISE to customers and refresh their mind how PCCW suck. HKBN is using FTTH(Fibre To The Home) technology to implement 100Mbps broadband services. Compare with Korea and Japan, it already using 100Mb and 1000Mb Network. Hong Kong Carrier (especially PCCW) is poor that have no plan to renew their last mile cable for existing building. Lastly PCCW offer is around $220 for 18Mb for 24 months contract. Her business strategy is thinking about create more Value Added Services (VAS) to grab more money but doesn't face bottleneck for coming year. Although it already using new video encoding technology, H.264, to replace MPEG2. However any ASDL technology never solve upload speed problem when everyone need submit their digital content to Internet.

Look around all ISPs, iCable network is no bargaining power on this bloody match. She only provide 10MBps coxial network and poor customer services. Every user had a bad experience. Moreover 10Mbps boardband services are eroded by mobile carrier that apply HSPA technology. End day for her is coming...

One more thing, HKBN confidently ordered a large amount of switches for explode business.

Appendice:
Reference of Mega bit transform to Mega byte
  •  1Mb = 125, 000 Byte
  • 100Mb = 12, 500, 000 Byte = 12.5MB
  • 10Mb = 1.25 MB
  • 18Mb = 2.25 MB
  • 30Mb = 3.75 MB

Update:

PCCW $99 for 8Mbps and $159 for 30Mbps
